Haroula Tsalpara, an emerging talent hailing from Greece, is set to captivate audiences in Australia with her enchanting renditions of rebetika, Smyrneika, and old laika music. She will be gracing the stage for two mesmerizing performances in August.

The first show will take place on Thursday, August 24, at the Brunswick Ballroom in Melbourne. This anticipated show will offer a unique opportunity for music enthusiasts to immerse themselves in Tsalpara’s improvisational approach to these cherished genres.

Afterward, Tsalpara will bring her musical prowess to Sydney, where she will grace the stage at The Red Rattler Theatre on Saturday, August 26. The venue promises an intimate setting that will undoubtedly enhance the audience’s connection with her artistry.

Accompanying Tsalpara on this journey will be local bouzouki players, Kostas Papapanagiotou and Nikos Papadimitriou, and violinist Jenny Dixon. Adding depth and authenticity to the ensemble, the revered rebetika veteran Con Calamars will join them on guitar.

Reflecting on luminaries like Roza Eskenazi and Rita Abatzi, Tsalpara channels the rich musical heritage of Greece and Asia Minor from the early 20th century. Her participation in major events in Greece and appearances at festivals throughout Europe have garnered widespread recognition.

Tsalpara’s passion for music began with her graduation in piano performance from the Orfeio Conservatory in Athens. She showcases her versatility by skillfully playing a range of instruments, including the baglamas, accordion, and piano.
