On the occasion of the International Day against Elder Abuse on Thursday 15 June, PRONIA is organising an information session in Greek on Friday 16 June at its offices in Brunswick.

Elder abuse is a multifaceted issue, and PRONIA aims to combat it by providing information, support, and advice. The organization recognises the importance of awareness in preventing and addressing elder abuse.

Mary Sophou, Director of Family and Community Services at PRONIA, stressed the significance of raising awareness to prevent abuse and support those affected.

“Awareness is key to tackling elder abuse. It is necessary to raise awareness in order to prevent this type of abuse in happening, in the first place and to assist those who are impacted to seek assistance” said Ms Sophou, Director of Family and Community Services at PRONIA and speaker at the event.

Renowned Family Law Barrister and accredited mediator Panagiota (Pat) Karnis will discuss the legal aspects of elder abuse, offering insights into recognition and avoidance strategies.

The session will conclude with a question-and-answer segment, providing attendees an opportunity for further engagement. Greek-speaking community members are encouraged to attend this free information session.
