Melbourne remains on track to ease restrictions in the coming days, in spite of two new local COVID-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The two new infections are both children linked to preexisting infections in the community. The two children have been in quarantine during their infectious period. One child is part of the infected Reservoir household and the other a close contact of the City of Melbourne case announced over the weekend according to Health Minister Martin Foley.

The two positives were among the 16,932 test results processed on Sunday, while 13,764 vaccination doses were delivered at state-run sites.

Professor Sutton, explained on Sunday that Victoria is still scheduled to ease restrictions later this week, but urged more people to present for testing.

Meanwhile, contact tracing estimates an approximate of 2000 active primary close contacts in the state, but Health Minister Martin Foley said that number was now in a “downward trajectory”.
