A successful return to the round paniyiri style Glendi has proved to be a fruitful move by Adelaide’s Greek community after festival goers showered the organisers with positive feedback.
In excess of 15,000 people congregated in the park to enjoy Hellenic culture and festivities and enjoy the musical offerings of violinist and vocalist Nikos Hatzopoulos who was accompanied by local South Australian musicians.
The Premier of South Australia Jay Weatherill was in attendance including a number of politicians such as State Liberal leader Steven Marshall and various dignitaries supported the festival over hte weekend.
“[The distinguished guests] were very pleased with the event and what it offered to the broader South Australian community,” said Mike Diakomichalis said on behalf of Glendi Inc.
The feedback received by the community has been overwhelming, especially for the organisers opting to return to a park setting for the 35th anniversary of the Glendi. The previous years have been held at Wayville Showgrounds.
Adelaide’s community has taken to facebook to voice their approval of last weekend’s events with comments such as: “I think congrats [sic] need to go to the current committee for putting together a fantastic experience. Putting up with the Glendi at the showgrounds was just too much to ask anyone. Well done to all involved for organising a fantastic event” and “I had a good time Ssturday night and my mates and I went Sunday had a goodtime too. Just do it there again not showgrounds”.
When asked if the Glendi will return to Bonython Park in 2014, Mr Diakomichalis said that the organisers “will definitely [keep the Glendi] in a park environment” but the decision on whether or not it will be Bonython Park again will be made early in the new year.
