The deadline is looming for Victoria’s ethnic seniors groups to apply for financial assistance to continue their work in alleviating social isolation and providing activities to connect with others.
Applications for the third round of the Victorian Government’s Participation for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors Grants Program must be submitted by next Friday, February 28.
Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) chairperson, Eddie Micallef encouraged ethnic seniors groups to apply for project funding before the deadline.
“The ECCV applauds the work these groups do for our community – they provide opportunities for people to join together in their own culture and language, and provide a way for seniors to receive information about health, services and support they may require,” he said.
“The Victorian Government is awarding grants of up to $4,000 (metro) or $5,000 (rural) and more complex projects can apply for up to $10,000.
“This grants program provides support for groups to continue and strengthen the work they are doing – the funds can go a long way for your group to provide vital services to members.”
Mr Micallef said past project funding includes assisting people to use public transport, the development of social and recreational activities, setting up home visits, promoting self-independence and skill development.
Other previous projects which have received support include social activities for living alone and housebound seniors and transport options for frail and isolated members. The grants are open until Friday, February 28, 2014.
