The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is calling on communities and organisations across the state to host and register their own Cultural Diversity Week event this month with the VMC. This year’s Cultural Diversity Week is to take place from 15 to 23 March 2014.

In its 12th year running, Cultural Diversity Week is an opportunity to celebrate the states cultural and linguistic diversity (CALD) through a lively program of community events and activities.

Last year, more than 300 communities, organisations and schools hosted events which brought the CALD and broader community together to support community harmony and celebrate our state’s unique cultural diversity.

Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Mr Chin Tan encourages all Victorians to come together and join in the celebrations of Cultural Diversity Week.

“Victorians are a diverse mix of people. We come from over 200 countries, speak more than 200 languages and follow 130 different faiths. This is a chance for all Victorians to learn about, celebrate, and be entertained by this rich diversity.”

“By registering your event with the VMC, you can help spread the word and use our Cultural Diversity Week promotional materials to support your event and engage your local community,” Mr Tan said.

Cultural Diversity Week also marks the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism on 21 March.

To register your event and order free promotional materials, go to www.multicultural.vic.gov.au or contact the VMC for further information on 03 9651 0651.
