For the fifth consecutive year, the Greek Australian Short Film Festival will be a highlight of the Greek Film Festival program and is currently looking for submissions from Withoutabox. Filmmakers from Australia and the world can submit their films to be screened and be eligible for the awards that will be on offer. ‘Best Film’ for each category will be awarded.

The Greek Australian Short Film Festival began five years ago and first showed local Greek Australian films in a bar in downtown Melbourne, Australia. Since then it has grown to be incorporated as part of the Greek Film Festival in Australia and screens across various states. The curators of the Greek Australian Short Film Festival are Jim Koutsoukos, Katerina Kotsonis and Stella Dimadis.

This year, The Greek Australian Short Film Festival is extending the invitation to international filmmakers who are Greek or of Greek descent to be given the opportunity to show their films. Films that are also thematically of a Greek nature will also be considered. There will be an International and a National section with prizes awarded in a number of categories.

Feature and documentary filmmakers are invited to submit their films.

Eligible films include works by Greek filmmakers and filmmakers of Greek descent worldwide. Also eligible are films about Greece, Greek stories, Greek and Cypriot productions or co-productions, as well as films by emerging Australian and Greek Australian filmmakers with a Greek theme.
Films with non-English dialogue must have English subtitles.

The submissions must be in by the due date of July 31, 2014. Films will not be accepted after the due date. Films must have been made in the past five years. The films must not be longer than 20 minutes in duration including credits. The decisions of the judges in awarding the prizes will be final and no discussion can be entered into.

Films can be used by the festival for a twelve month period following the festival for the purpose of not-for-profit events, after consultation with the rights holder.

The 5th Greek Australian Short Film Festival will be incorporated with the Greek Film Festival 2014. Last year it encountered success by showcasing filmmakers from across Australia. Some of the films had won International Film Awards and some were shown for the first time. Last year Napoleon Perdis provided a $500 hamper for the ‘Best Film’ and the Greek Community provided a $500 cash prize to the Best Film. The Maker by Christopher Kezelos was the winner.
