After the success of the 2013 Piers Festival at the historic Port Melbourne piers precinct, Multicultural Arts Victoria (MAV) is already beginning preparations for next year’s festival.

Expressions of interest are now open , with the MAV calling for story submissions for their new program entitled ‘What Happened at the Pier’.

The program will present a rich narrative experience revealing first-hand migration stories across multiple artistic formats. The aim is to honour the memory of immigrants and refugees who have travelled to Australia in search for a new beginning.

The program is curated by Lella Cariddi who arrived at the Princes Pier with her family in 1955.

The Port Melbourne piers precinct was the historical entry point to Victoria for hundreds of thousands of migrants over the past century, including thousands of Greek migrants.

The Festival will feature a range of free activities spanning forums, exhibitions, music, dance, food and craft stalls and is open to all.
