Greece won the women’s European Under-19 Championship in Italy beating the host in Sunday’s final, for what was the country’s second gold medal in the competition’s history.

The Greek teenagers dominated the final against Italy at Ostia from start to finish to win 7-6, having led 7-4 earlier in the last period of the game.

This gold medal serves to show that despite Greece’s absence from the summit in Europe and from the 2012 Olympic Games in women’s water polo, its next generation is likely to restore its past glory.
