A sailing vessel carrying over 200 migrants ran aground off the shores of Rhodes, Greece.

According to coastguard reports, three undocumented migrants are dead, as the bodies of a man, a woman and a child were recovered from the cold waters during a rescue operation at the sea region of Zefyros near the Greek island.

More than 30 people of the 90 migrants rescued on Monday, were transferred to hospital. The migrants have fallen into the water while a coastguard vessel along near-by boats are trying to locate them.

“We have recovered three bodies so far – that of a man, a woman and a child,” a Greek coast guard official told the media.

“The Mediterranean has become a wet grave for thousands of souls struggling to escape the flames of war,” Gabriel Sakellaridis from SYRIZA stated.

Shocking TV footage from a helicopter flying over the scene, shows people still holding on to wooden parts of the boat floating in the sea, waiting to be rescued.

The predicament following the latest disaster of the death of nearly 700 migrants after the fishing boat carrying them from Libya capsised in the Mediterranean this weekend, adds to the staggering number of 1,500 migrants who have died this year only seeking refuge in Europe.
