The Hawthorn Spartans weren’t able to seek revenge for a grand final loss last year, as they came up against the Old Xaverians last week.

Injuries and a lack of players gave the Xaverians a chance to overrun the Spartans as the team tried desperately to keep up with only 18 players on hand.

The Spartans lead in the first quarter by two points, but it didn’t take long for the Xaverians to overtake them, growing their lead to 26 points by the third quarter.

In the end, the Xaverians managed a 36 point win at 94-58, one of the Spartans’ lowest scores for a very long time.

They will be hoping to change tact today as they come up against a new team, North Old Boys/St. Patricks at 11:40am at Alec Gillon Oval, Cnr Pearson and Victoria Streets, Brunswick.

Their next home match will be a good chance for fans to come watch the team as the club celebrates their first souvlaki sponsor day.

The Spartans take on Richmond Central on May 2 at 11.40am at home, Rathmines Reserve.
