The international film premiere for Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightening Thief was held in Athens on January 29.

Pierce Brosnan was in attendance at an upscale restaurant and reception hall that overlooked the Parthenon in central Athens.

Four of the cast members took part in a webcast Q&A session with young fans of the book series.

Among the topics discussed were the challenges Brandon Jackson (who plays Percy’s satyr friend Grover Underwood) faced working his goaty legs.

Fans who took part in the webcast also had the opportunity to view a never-before-seen clip from the film.

The fantasy-adventure movie is an adaptation of the first novel in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series by author Rick Riordan.

Brosnan is joined on screen by a star-studded line up including Uma Therman, Rosario Dawson and Jake Abel.

Directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire), Percy Jackson centres on a teenager of the same name that discovers he is the demigod son of the Greek god Poseidon.

Jackson embarks on a journey across modern-day America with his friend Annabeth (the demigod daughter of Athena) and satyr Grover.

The trio are travelling to achieve three daunting tasks; to save Percy’s mother, to return Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt, and to prevent a war between the gods.

Filming began in April 2009 in Canada, and some scenes were captured at a faux-Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee.

This first instalment of the Percy Jackson films is set to be released globally this month, and a sequel titlted The Sea of Monsters is scheduled for release in 2012.
