Like it or hate it, Valentine’s Day will be a day of roses, indulgences, amazing dates and declarations of undying love.

Okay well maybe not for everyone.

Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to get dressed up; think gorgeous, flowing dresses in soft and sheer fabrics, or elegant, high end numbers, with great detailing and luxurious fabrics, using the 2010 Haute Couture shows for inspiration.
Whether you’re going on a date, or are single and just want to look fabulous and flaunt it, we’ve got you covered.

Destination: picnic
Try a floaty floral sundress with a pair of cute flats and oversized sunnies or for the ultimate comfort, team a long printed maxi dress.

For something more refreshing, take inspiration from Burbarry Prorsum’s S/S 2010 RTW and try a gorgeous draping dress in a sorbet tone – think lemon, pistachio, orange sherbet, and even lilac – team with a chunky black cuff for sharper edge.

Destination: Movie.
You don’t want to look OTT at a movie date, but you don’t want to look too casual either so this season’s shorts are perfect as you can dress them up or down. Dress them up with a sexy ruffle blouse or frill tank, and a blazer.

Try a neutral colour such as slate grey or light salmon for a relaxed look; alternatively a crisp white or black blazer will instantly smarten up this look. Team with either studded multi-strapped metallic or neutral platforms then add a cool necklace and a cocktail ring and you’re done.

For a more casual look, layer a cute tee or tank with a light knitted jacket. Feeling classic? You can’t go wrong with skinny jeans, sparkly top and killer heels.
Destination: classy
So you’re heading to the nicest restaurant in town? Hello haute couture.

Try the LWD (little white dress), the new spin on the LBD as seen at Givenchy, Stephane Rolland, and Chanel.

A sleek, silky number with embellished detailing, matching cuff and metallic heels looks oh so Chanel.

For a romantic look and to draw attention to your assets, try ruffles around the bust area.
Feeling a little less than fab?

Inject some colour therapy with a ruched lipstick red statement dress that’s strapless or has a plunging v-neck and of course team with smouldering red lips (singles take note!).

This will be sure to knock his (or the potential him) socks off.
If all else fails, a LBD with stilettos, beautiful gold cuff and necklace will work well for almost every body type.

This is a tricky one because you don’t want to be to wearing a delicate gown only to be taken on a camping trip but at the same time you want to look classy if he’s decided to take you to a posh restaurant. Again the jeans, embellished top and cuff/feature ring combination is a safe-bet, although if you want to take it up a notch, a pleat shoulder panel dress in black, magenta or red screams sexy.

Dress it down with some flats, or if you think he’s likely to take you to that restaurant, wear the heels but ensure you’ll be comfortable in them (you won’t look sexy if you’re limping because of blisters).
