Members and friends of Melbourne University’s Greek Association (MUnGA) gathered at Kinisi earlier this month to let off some steam and celebrate their culture.

A night full of kefi, Greek music enthusiasts took to the table tops, dancing to live music by the Rythmos band.

Newly-formed Macedonian dance group ‘O Periklis’ also performed on the night, accompanied by a traditional halkina band.

Stefanos Levoyiannis on lyra and Dimitri Tsombanopouloson on the daouli gave a surprise performance of traditional Pontian songs, before DJ Niiki Katifori put a modern spin on the night.

“Munga welcomes indiscriminately, to not only our tavern night but all events, Hellenes and Philhellenes who are passionate about Hellenic culture and traditions, and are eager to meet, network and build friendships with other like-minded people. I am a proud to provide this opportunity,” said president of the association, Nick Tzoudidis.

Organised by president Tzoutzidis, vice-president Tia Kallianis, treasurer John Liacopoulos, secretary Pamela Papadopoulos, along with a number of committee members, MUnGA aspires to be more than a social club.

Earlier this year, the association made a generous contribution to the Altona Greek Churches and Fronditha Care for the sum of $2500.
