In celebration of Greek cuisine and the flavours that make it so unique and admired across the globe, Flavours of Greece is set to return this month.

Hosted by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, the three-day program includes everything from kids cooking classes to demonstrations by some of Melbourne’s most loved chefs.

Karen Koutsodontis’ The Travelling Kitchen will offer primary school age children the chance to take part in a hands-on workshop delivered in both Greek and English.

They will be given an introduction into practical cooking skills, sensory testing and nutrition education, while making a familiar Greek dish.

For the adults, Philip Vakos, former MasterChef contestant and co-owner of Bahari – The Hellenic Palate, will be hosting an intimate dinner.

He will demonstrate how to prepare a mouth-watering menu using seasonal produce, and with Greek wines to match.

With Melbourne home to so many Greek eateries, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the knowledge held by those responsible for some of our favourite dishes.

Sign up for a cooking demonstration with some of these culinary experts and learn how to make ricotta bougatsa dessert with Hellenic Republic’s Travis McAuley, traditional cheese pie with handmade filo pastry with Mary Valle, and of course, Greek taverna classics with Angela Nicolettou.

To wrap up the weekend, attendees will get to sit back and enjoy a screening of Tassos Boulmetis’ A Touch of Spice (Politiki Kouzina).

Flavours of Greece will take place from Friday 25-Sunday 27 September at The Greek Centre, 168 Lonsdale Street Melbourne. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.greekcentre.com.au/fog/
