Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos has a new film up his sleeve, and the star-studded cast includes some of Hollywood’s most sought after names.

According to reports by Deadline, the film entitled The Favourite will see Olivia Coleman, Emma Stone and Kate Winslet playing the three leading roles.

Set during the 18th-century reign of Queen Anne – a period yet to be truly explored by film-makers – the storyline surrounds the many machinations in the British Queen’s court.

Colman is expected to be confirmed for the leading role of Queen Anne, while Winslet will play Anne’s close friend Sarah Churchill, and Stone Abigail Masham.

She eventually takes the place of Churchill as Anne’s confidant, with rumours arising of an affair between the two.

Set to be the directors’ second English language film, the new project has been referred to as “one of the most-sought after projects in the marketplace”.

It will be produced by Scarlet Films’ Ceci Dempsey and Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney, Lee Magiday, both responsible for Lanthimos’ The Lobster, which received rave reviews at Cannes earlier this year.
