Federal Member for Hotham Simon Crean on Friday laid the foundation stone for the multi-million dollar extension of the Poseidon Black Swan Dips factory at Clayton.

From its humble beginnings as a stall at the South Melbourne market in 1974, Black Swan Dips has become the market leader in pre-packed dips.

Mr Crean originally opened the factory almost 10 years ago at its current location in Clayton.

The company has expanded its production centre to accommodate its new range of yoghurts and its range of more than 20 dip flavours.

Black Swan now sells more than 20 million containers every year through leading Australian supermarkets, including Coles, Woolworths, and Franklin’s.

As a 100 percent Australian-owned family company, Managing Director Con Saris spoke of the “importance of family, a spirit of entrepreneurship, providing a supportive and positive workplace, and the many contributions the company makes to the wider community”.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Crean congratulated the Saris family on “taking the next step in its expansion plans”. Mr Crean added, “that it was fantastic to see a strong family business growing and thriving in the Clayton South area.”
