South Melbourne U20s coach Sasa Kolman is set to continue his development as a coach by accepting an 18-month position as youth coach at Spanish Second Division club Deportivo Alaves.

It’s the second time the 31- year-old former Slovenian Youth International has spent time pursuing his career in Spain, after first having spent time there in 2010 at Santanda as a player with fourth-division club Deportivo Rayo Cantabria.

A qualified PE teacher, Kolman last year qualified for his UEFA Pro Licence after first joining South Melbourne as its U20 coach in 2014, where he worked and helped develop such talented young players as Andrew Kecojevic and Stefan Zinni, who is now at Melbourne City.

Kolman also recently caught up with the touring party of South Juniors during their recent visit to Spain.

According to the South Melbourne FC website, once Kolman completes his coaching tenure at Deportivo Alaves, he plans to return to South Melbourne.

In the meantime, SMFC has announced the appointment of respected youth coach Brian MacNicol as the new U20s coach to replace Kolman.

The former Heidelberg United, Gippsland Falcons and Collingwood Warriors player coached the South Melbourne U13s boys side to the NPL Easet Championship in 2015.
