PAOK Thessaloniki, AEK Athens and Atromitos all look certain to be docked points by the Greek Super League, a decision which would change the race for the play-off spots and the relegation battle.

The three clubs have all been reported for crowd troubles, but a nationwide strike by lawyers has meant their cases have yet to be heard.

Point deductions to PAOK and Atromitos, which seems more than likely, could result in big problems for the two sides. AEK is also concerned, as it could lose its advantage in the race for the coveted second spot, which leads to the qualifiers for the more lucrative UEFA Champions League.

AEK is currently second, eight points ahead of third-placed Panathinaikos.

PAOK is fourth, seven points ahead of sixth-placed Asteras Tripolis. A three-point deduction to PAOK would open up the race for the play-off spots not only to Asteras, but also to PAS Giannena.

Meanwhile Atromitos is 13th on 26 points, just four ahead of Veria. A three-point deduction to Atromitos could place it right back in the relegation battle.

In last week’s results, recently-crowned Greek champions Olympiakos Piraeus scored twice in the last three minutes to beat rival Panathinaikos 3-1.

Olympiakos’ central defender Manuel Da Costa headed home a Kostas Fortounis set-piece in the 87th minute before Brown Ideye slotted home two minutes later.

Panathinaikos started the game stronger and went ahead early when Marcus Berg scored to goal silence a packed Georgios Karaiskakis stadium in the 193rd showdown between Greece’s two most successful clubs.

Olympiakos, who wrapped up its 43rd league title with six matches to spare two weeks ago, then drew level when Argentinean Esteban Cambiasso drilled the ball home just before halftime.

The goal was controversial because the linesman had flagged for interference by Olympiakos forward Alejandro Dominguez, who was standing in front of Panathinaikos goalkeeper Luke Steele but the referee overruled his assistant and gave the goal.

In other key games PAOK, under new caretaker coach Vladan Ivic, returned to winning ways with a 3-nil victory at Panaitolikos, while AEK defeated Panthrakikos 3-nil at the Athens Olympic Stadium.

In this weekend’s action, Xanthi plays Levadiakos on Saturday afternoon, followed by Veria versus Platanias and Panathinaikos against Iraklis in the late game.

On Sunday, Panetolikos hosts AEK, Panthraikos takes on Atromitos, PAOK plays Kalloni and in the late game it’s Olympiakos away at Asteras Tripolis.

The action concludes on Monday when Giannina plays Panionios.
