The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has announced the nominees for the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

The institution is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honouring more than 65 craft categories behind the many shows that grace the daytime genre.

The 2016 nominations were revealed on the Emmy-winning show The Talk on CBS. The Young and the Restless led all shows with 27 nominations. General Hospital had 24, The Bold and The Beautiful received 23 and Days of our Lives nabbed 16.

Multi-awarded director, choreographer, visual artist and performer Dimitris Papaioannou has been nominated for two Emmy Awards in the categories ‘Outstanding Directing Special Class’ and ‘Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design’ for ORIGINS, the opening ceremony of the Baku 2015 European Games.

Papaioannou’s creative team and ORIGINS have been nominated for four more Emmy Awards in the following categories:
– Outstanding Costume Design/Styling
– Outstanding Music Direction and Composition
– Outstanding Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing
– Outstanding Lighting Direction

The awards ceremony will be held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites on Sunday 1 May, whereas the Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place at the Bonaventure on Friday 29 April.

Sadly, it was announced that this year’s ceremony will not be broadcast live, however, efforts regarding returning the annual gala to television in 2017 are underway.

“After last year’s critically successful daytime telecast, it is with great disappointment that The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announces that there will not be a broadcast of the 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards,” said president Bob Mauro.

“After months of negotiations to find show sponsorship, the NATAS executive board has decided that the current climate for awards shows prohibits the possibility of a telecast this year. With that said, we will be putting on a world-class awards celebration honouring the best and brightest of daytime television and look forward to an exciting show.”
