On Saturday in wet, difficult conditions and what was shaping up as a good game, the Spartans led until 19 minutes into the second quarter, when an unfortunate and serious injury to an Old Xaverians player and the delay that followed, meant the game had to cease.

The result will be in the hands of VAFA, so we await. The pleasing thing is, that Spartans either win the game as they were in front or it is a draw, so Spartans can’t lose the game.

The Score at time game stopped was Spartans 4.3.27 to Old Xaverians 4.1.25.

Full credit to the Spartans for the sportsmanship displayed and the obvious concern for the injured player, who apparently was a regular senior player.

The Spartans know what areas to focus when they play arch rivals Old Xaverians and they were on display until the game stopped in what was a very even team performance.

Spartans’s 4 goalkickers were Ang Christou 1, Ari Mitropoulos 1, Luke Edwards 1 and Adam Karim 1.

This week there is no game because of the long weekend and catch up for a compulsory training night at Deganis Northcote.
