Cr John Sharkey has been elected as a Mulgrave Ward councillor in a countback of the 2012 Council election, held to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Paul Klisaris.

Cr Sharkey is a consultant change manager, executive coach, educator and author, and adds to council’s cultural diversity with his Irish heritage.

Having migrated from Ireland to Australia in 1992, he currently resides in Monash with his wife and their two primary school aged children.

He worked as an executive chef in five-star establishments before moving into management, education and coaching.

The councillor said he was looking forward to working with the local community, his fellow councillors and council staff to make sure Monash remains a safe, family friendly and culturally harmonious community.

“I’m keen to work with my fellow councillors and the community to see what we can do to improve facilities for people in Mulgrave and Wheelers Hill,” he said.

Mayor Geoff Lake congratulated Cr Sharkey on his election.

“I’m looking forward to working with John and welcome the different perspective he will bring to Council,” said Cr Lake.

“His energy and enthusiasm are a real win for the people of Monash.”
