Botching George Calombaris’ oyster terrine recipe has cost Peter Kritikides his place in the Masterchef series.

“I’ve just had the most unbelievable experience meeting some of my culinary icons- I’m an absolute foodie and the opportunity to meet these amazing international and national chefs has been an absolute treat.”

The 29-year-old lawyer from Melbourne was eliminated last night following a Pressure Test challenge that saw him over poach his oysters.

“The dish involved having to shuck 48 oysters, cook a kilo of shallots and all sorts of things in a technical dish that took over three hours to cook. When I plated it up, I was pretty proud of what I have achieved, but it just so happened that one element of my dish caused me to be eliminated,” he said.

The recent eviction has not left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“I’ve just had the most unbelievable experience meeting some of my culinary icons- I’m an absolute foodie and the opportunity to meet these amazing international and national chefs has been an absolute treat.”

Kritikides described the past few weeks as, “pretty intimidating” as the contestants improved upon their skills.

“As the numbers dwindles, there’s that reality check that you’re getting closer and closer to the end and the competition just keeps getting hotter and hotter,” he said.

“It’s hard not to say that Marion will win but I want to back the underdogs in Adam or Callum.” Kritikides reveals that he and his wife are in the progress of establishing a “little food business”, which he hopes to run parallel to his legal career.

Whilst he won’t reveal the exact details of the business, he says that he will, “always stay true to his Mediterranean background.”
