How did you start your business?

After extensive research and formulating a Health and Wellbeing model, a strategic business plan was set up in collaboration with my financial institution in developing “It’s only natural”.

The business plan involved appropriate funding, stock levels, location of business, forward projections, advertising costs, complete renovation of premises, legal and council requirements and demographic focus.

Did your Greek-Australian background help you or impede you during your early days?

My Greek-Australian background has helped instil a strong work ethic, family values and dare I say entrepreneurial skills which can be second nature in migrants.

Being bi-lingual and having a strong cultural disposition helps me in my understanding of all social levels of the community and their particular health needs. Poor communication for migrant Greek people in the Australian community can lead to social isolation and health problems.

What would you say stands out as the comparative advantage of your business over the competition?

The business is growing well and consistently. Our main focus area of free Naturopathic advice 6 days a week and a comprehensive Natural Health dispensary has been received very well. I’ve been a clinical Naturopath for over 25 years both privately and in Pharmacy.

What is your vision for the future of your business?

Do you have any tips for young entrepreneurs?

Believe in yourself, believe in your product & service delivery. Do your market research and establish a point of difference in the market place, based on your demographic.

Make sure you have enough capital to establish and implement your dream and business plan for the future. Never forget the day to day running of your business.

The same principles apply in small as in large business. Remember from small things big things grow. Customer’s individual concerns and needs should always be addressed.

Research your product or service thoroughly before commencing a business. Be aware of your major competitors as location and point of difference can be established.

Best practice guidelines can be established hence making you an expert in your business.

Value and honour your staff. Rotate their tasks as multitasking can help fill holes if you are busy or staff are away on leave or ill.

Try and establish one on one relationship with customers and business representatives alike. Encourage your staff to do the same as the personal touch is penultimate in business.
