Sydney-born brothers Dimitri and Kosta Petratos will join forces and play as teammates next season at A-League club Newcastle Jets.

The Jets announced it would boost its attacking stocks in season 2017-18 with the signing of 24- year-old Dimitri, an attacking midfielder from Brisbane Roar, and his 18-year-old brother, striker Kosta, from Perth Glory.

Both players will complete the current season at Roar and Glory respectively, before moving to the Hunter Valley for the start of next pre-season.

Dimitri Petratos has clocked up 122 A-League appearances, and scored 20 goals in almost seven seasons at Sydney FC and current club Brisbane Roar.

Younger brother Kosta joined Perth Glory in January 2016 and has made nine appearances for the WA club. He began his senior career with the FFA Centre of Excellence and has represented the Australian U17s on 15 occasions, scoring seven goals.

Dimitri has won 12 representative caps for Australia at U17, U20 and U23 levels, for three goals.

“Dimitri will be a great asset to the club,” Jets coach Mark Jones said of the brothers. “It’s good that some of the best players in the country want to come and play for the Jets.
“Kosta is an emerging talent,” he continued. “I have always said that I am keen to work with the best young kids in the country to develop them into Hyundai A-League players and beyond.”

Meanwhile, another young up-and-coming Sydney-born footballer, Western Sydney Wanderers 20-year-old centre back Jonathan Aspropotamitis, has been rewarded for his good form this season with a call up into Josep Gombau’s 26-man Australian U23 sqquad to attend a three- day training camp on the NSW Central Coast this coming week.

Aspro, as he is known to his teammates, has previously represented the Australian U20s team twice. He should feel quite at home on the camp, being one of seven WSW players selected for the squad.
