The annual Agapi Care radiothon last Sunday 7 May raised $50,850 for the Preston special needs care facility thanks to Greek radio station 3ΧΥ.

The fundraising broadcast started at 9am and closed at 12am, however, many members of the Greek community kept calling to contribute after hours.

The money raised will be allocated towards the transformation of the not-for-profit organisation’s Preston head offices into a fully equipped care facility for patients with special needs.

“The amount needed for the completion of the project is estimated to reach $600,000,” General Director Mary Gakopoulos told Neos Kosmos.

“It is a much needed redevelopment due to the increased demand in care services for members of our community with disabilities.”

At the moment, there are 60 people on Agapi Care’s waiting list.

The project development will begin in eight months, when the designs will be submitted to the council, Mrs Gakopoulos said before she and the Agapi board members thanked 3XY, the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria as well as the elders’ communities for their generous contributions.

If you wish to donate towards the realisation of this project you can do it through any Delphi Bank branch (BSB: 941 302 account number: 201 987 020).
