Olympiakos have joined Panathinaikos on 24 points at the top of the Super League after a 3-0 win against PAOK in an entertaining match at the Karaiskaki Stadium on Sunday.

Kevin Mirallas was in fine goalscoring form for the Reds again, notching up two in the win over PAOK, who had Vladan Ivic sent off in the second half.

The Belgian got his first in the 38th minute after Albert Riera intercepted a pass and Yiannis Papadopoulos threaded the ball through the PAOK defense for Mirallas to finish calmly.

Both sides played well in the first 45 minutes, forcing four saves out of each keeper.

However, PAOK’s foothold in the game was lost just before the hour-mark when Ivic was shown a second yellow for a crunching tackle.

Olympiakos effectively killed off the game in the 73rd minute when Dennis Rommedahl produced a wonderful layoff for Mirallas to strike home from the edge of the box.

The Dane rounded things off with a powerful finish of his own from inside the penalty area with three minutes left.

Olympiakos remain in second place but they have played a game less than PAO.

PAOK have been overtaken in third place by Kavala who beat AEK 2-1 at home on Sunday.

Nemanja Vucicevic gave the team from northern Greece the lead after 14 minutes and Benjamin Onwuachi double the lead just after half-time.

AEK had to wait until five minutes from time for their breakthrough when Nacho Scocco scored. But it was too late for a comeback.

Kavala now have 18 points from 11 games. AEK are in fifth on 16 points.

Aris are sixth, also on 16 points after getting back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Kerkyra.

Daniel Cesarec opened the scoring in the 35th minute and the home fans remained on tenterhooks until injury time when Alvaro Portilla made it 2-0.

Larissa were not able to bid farewell to their home for the last 46 years, the Alkazar Stadium, before a move to their new ground, the AEL Arena, as they lost 1-0 to Panionios.

Mohammed Salali scored the only goal in first half injury time on what was an emotional night for the home side and their supporters.

Panionios remain bottom on 10 points despite the win as Ergotelis were able to pick up a point at Atromitos in a 1-1 draw.

Marek Saganowski had given the home side the lead after just six minutes but Ergotelis hit back through Leal Gonzales in the 66th minute.

Panathinaikos survived a scare against Iraklis at home on Saturday and came back from two goals down to beat the visitors 4-2 as no less than two Greens managers looked on.

Former Porto and Malaga coach Jesualdo Ferreira watched from the stands after signing a 1.5-year contract to manage the Greek champions while caretaker Jacek Gmoch, appointed after the departure of Nikos Nioplias, followed the game from the bench.

Both men would have been seriously worried after just 21 minutes of play as Iraklis had taken a 2-0 lead. Midfielder Bogdan Mara scored on 20 minutes and just seconds later Pitu Garcia gave the visitors an even greater lead.

Crucially, the Thessaloniki side was not able to hold on for long and Luis Garcia reduced the deficit on the half-hour mark with a good shot. Panathinaikos had managed to level the scores on the stroke of half time through the Super League’s top scorer, Djibril Cisse.

It was the Frenchman who gave the Greens the lead on 50 minutes for his 10th league goal of the season before fellow striker Antonis Petropoulos rounded off the comeback with a fourth on 75.

Iraklis’s misery was compounded in injury time when Karim Soltani was harshly sent off for pulling back a Panathinaikos player.

Iraklis later issued a statement slamming the referee, Michalis Voskakis, for showing Soltani the red card for using abusive language. The visitors said Voskakis had also sent the same player off in the game against Asteras Tripolis and accused him of not punishing bad language from Panathinaikos players.

The win means that the Greens are on 24 points after 11 games.
