Now that the chaos of the silly season has begun to die down, it seems we are all reeling with two pressing questions: am I enjoying the beginning of the new year as best as I can, and where on earth has my summer gone?

What with an unseasonably wet season this year, it is really hard for any of us to even imagine enjoying a sunny, beachside getaway (that is not muggy) as most of us normally do at this time.

Fear not! What better way to escape this muggy excuse for a summer than to plan a sunny trip away? An abundance of such escapes are on offer, and a lucky ship full of sun addicts will be attending one in particular this time next year.

Travel company, Thalassa Cruise, have put together a luxurious 7-day cruise of the South Pacific Islands for January 2012, with a Greek twist.
Greekfest at Sea will embark from Sydney on 5 January 2012, and dock back on Aussie shores seven days later, on January 12.

The cruise will feature a massive line up of Greek entertainment including Greece’s own Lefteris Pantazis with his band and two guest singers.
Also on the entertainment bill are Jessica Demertzi, George Diakonidis, Maria Diakonis and the Thalassa Band.

A great list of DJs has also signed up for the fun including Nick Missailidis, Johnny G, Lil Nik, Lambros, Funkmaster Chris C, Valandi and Opa Dance Darwin among others.

Daily Greek dancing classes are on the schedule, and even George “Mimo” Kapiniaris will be onboard for comic relief. All entertainment will take place in the ship’s numerous lounges and pool bar.

As you cruise from Sydney to Noumea, the Isle of Pines and then back to Oz in the boat called Rhapsody of the Seas, you will almost feel like you are on board a liner to the Cyclades islands.

The ship itself is sleek and modern with a warm atmosphere throughout its 11 decks.

Sun-filled atriums, marble staircases and buttery leathers all contribute to the Rhapsody’s relaxed elegance. Think cosmopolitan sailing, Greek style. Rhapsody is a member of Royal Caribbean’s series of Vision Class ships. Even her card room, library and lounges are open to sea views. So, get the gumboots off and start planning!
