A Macedonian derby is on the cards after the volleyball sides of Iraklis and Aris drew each other in the quarterfinals of the Greek Cup on Thursday.
The knock-out tie between the two Thessalonica rivals, whose clash last season in the league had delayed the play-offs for weeks due to fan action during their game at Iraklis, will take place on February 16.
On the same date holders Panathinaikos will visit ambitious Lamia, champions Olympiakos will play at Panellinios and Kifissia will host PAOK.
The final will take place at Orestiada, north-eastern Greece, on March 19.
EA Patras was the most notable casualty in the previous round.
Aris thrashed visiting EAP 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-20 in Thessalonica, as the Patra side travelled to the game without their coach and with several of their key players rested.
PAOK defeated neighbouring Epikouros Polichnis 3-1 away (25-20, 22-25, 25-14, 25-13), surging back from a string of bad results in the league.
Kifissia got the better of Apollon Kalamarias at home, winning 3-1. The visitors recovered from a 25-12 loss in the first set to win the second 25-19, but Kifissia was the better side for the rest of the match, winning the last couple of sets 25-19, 25-22.
Lamia had an impressive visit to Alexandroupoli, dismissing local Ethnikos 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-12).
Panathinaikos, Olympiakos, Iraklis and Panellinios had advanced straight to the quarterfinals without a match.
Meanwhile, Greece blocker Nikos Smaragdis, who had ended his contract with Panathinaikos and was without a club, agreed to return to Iraklis for the next year and a half.
Smaragdis also had a proposal from Olympiakos, but opted to go back to Iraklis where he was crowned Greek champion in 2007 and 2008.
