Panathinaikos made up for their midweek defeat in the Euroleague by thumping Maroussi to at least temporarily go top of the A1 League on Saturday.

The Greens beat their Athenian opponents 98-57 on their court and went some way to wiping out the shock defeat at Lietuvos Ritas.

The win takes Panathinaikos to 37 points, one ahead of Olympiakos who play on Sunday. Maroussi remain third on 30 points.

Panionios moved into fourth spot with an 82-77 win over Ilisiakos, while Aris joined the Nea Smyrni club on 29 points after downing Kolossos Rhodes 75-66.

At the other end of the table, both AEK and Iraklis scored significant victories in their battle for survival.

AEK beat Peristeri 64-60 and Iraklis beat Kavala 83-79 in another tight game.

This means that four clubs, including AEK and Iraklis, have 24 points and Ikaros Kallitheas is just a point ahead on 25.
