The Australian Hellenic Council of NSW has announced its new leadership team for 2011. The new Secretariat was elected from amongst the representatives of the major community organisations in attendance.

This year’s AHC Coordinators will include George Vellis from the PanEpirotan Association of NSW, John Petropoulos from the Peloponnesian Confederation of NSW, and Petros Kalligas from the Greek Australian Conservative Coalition.

The secretary will be Mary Giannisis from the Patmian Association of NSW, while the Assistant Secretary will be Kathy Kouvas from the Greek Australian Professionals Association. Yiannis Kallimanis, of Order of AHEPA, will take on the role of treasurer with Lambros Papadopoulos from the Greek Sub-Branch RSL as assistant treasurer.

The Media, Policy and Research representative will be Dr Panayiotis Diamadis from the Australian Hellenic Educators’ Association while Harry Danalis from the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW will be the AHC’s Legal Counsel. Friends of the AHC Sub-Committee will be Tina Delakakis from the Samian Association of NSW and Mr Pavlos Theodorakopoulos from the Helmos Association of NSW. 2011 promises to be a very busy year for the AHC in NSW, with the awards dinner on Friday March 18 to honour the service of Australian Hellenes and philhellenes.

To mark the 70th anniversary of the 1941 Greek Campaign, the Council is preparing a number of activities including an 18-month calendar of images from the days Australians and Hellenes fought together against the Nazis and their collaborators.
