The inaugural Oakleigh Music Festival is a vibrant ten-day celebration of the city’s lively cultural, arts and culinary scenes. Running from March 10 to 20, the festival showcases the best that Oakleigh and Melbourne has to offer in live music, energetic performances, fun for the kids and adventurous cuisine. There are three major parts of the festival.
The Carnival of Suburbia at the Caravan Music Club will host ten nights of Australian live music, with some of Australia’s rock royalty playing with members of TISM, The Triffids and, of course, Tim Rogers from You Am I playing with his band the Temperance Union alongside Adalita of Magic Dirt. This Sunday, there will be the Great Southern BBQ for a hit of home-style Southern cooking and main band Chris Altmann and Que Paso and guests Tim Rogers, Suzannah Espie, Anna Burley, Matt Walker and Sarah Carroll.
The Cinema in the Park on Saturday March 19, is a popular event for the families as not only can you watch the fabulous Hairspray under the stars, it’s also free. Oakleigh Music Festival will close with a bang on Sunday night, March 20. There will be two stages running in Warrawee park. One, the Caravan Music Stage will have Rebecca Barnard as MC and feature such Australian musical talent as Vika and Linda Bull and Australian Idol’s Bobby Flint.
The Flavours of Monash Community stage will showcase the cultural melting pot of the Monash community and will feature belly dancing, cooking demonstrations, and plenty of activities for the kids in the Kid’s Zone with face painting, a jumping castle and a chair-o-plane.
