The reality television show Real Housewives of Athens has been launched in Greece to scathing reviews from not only critics but Greeks alike.

The show – which is a spin-off of the American television series – is about following the daily routines of six Greek socialites. But the show is in turn offending Greeks who are undergoing unprecedented belt-tightening due to incomes being slashed and jobs being cut as a result of the national financial crisis.

The television show depicts the ladies lounging, wasting money on hip restaurants, clothes and beauty salons which to Greeks currently living through this hard time in Greece find insulting. “The talk of money and luxury…raises one’s hackles particularly for someone living in Greece at this point in time,” said Kathimerini Daily.
