Oakleigh Music Festival will come to a close Sunday 20 March with a day of feasting, dancing and singing at Flavours of Oakleigh.

It’s a day the whole family can enjoy with events for the adults and a Kids Zone for the children. The City of Monash is very multicultural and is quite diverse when it comes to our celebrations,” said Mayor of the City of Monash, Cr Greg Male to Neos Kosmos. “This diversity in Oakleigh brings in food and music which are quite common delights of our ethnic population. It’s part of a good way to communicate either by music or having a bite to eat,” he said.

Cr Male said that the Oakleigh Music Festival is the best way to close the festival that’s been running for ten days in the City of Oakleigh. “The Oakleigh Music Festival will include a wide variety of food stalls, activities and entertainment such as Bobby Flynn, Vika and Linda Bull and the Public Opinion Afro Orchestra. This band is inspired by the infectious Afro beat of Nigeria and its neighbours and that ensemble comprises 17 musicians hand-picked from Melbourne’s music scene.”

The MC for the event will be Melbourne artist Rebecca Barnard and will take place on the Caravan Music Stage. The other side of Warrawee Park will play host to the Flavours of Monash Community Stage, giving each festival reveller a chance to treat their senses and tempt their taste buds. The Kids Zone will also be hosted here.

“The Kids Zone,” explains Cr Male to Neos Kosmos, “includes a visual arts creation stall where children can make their own musical instrument, there’s a reptile display by Animal Tracks and we have face painting, a jumping castle and storytelling.”

“The workshop marquee has cupcake decorating which is quite popular. We have an AUSLAN singing workshop where Melbourne artist and puppeteer Asphyxia from the Grimstones adds a twist to learning sign language and you will learn how to tell a story with your hands. There is also belly dancing workshops a chance to feel fabulous and learn the art of belly dancing.”

Flavours of Oakleigh takes place on Sunday 20 March at Warrawee Park Oakleigh.
