Despina Donato is an office manager by day and a member of the GOCMV Dance Group by night.

Name

Despina Donato, 23.

Your greatest achievement

Ηaving a house by the age of 20.

How did you get to where you are now

I got to where I am with the love and support of family and friends.

Your greatest challenge

When I was 14 when I convinced my parents to allow me to change from Catholic to Greek Orthodox.

Goal for the future

To be happy and content within myself and my life. No matter which way I choose to go.

One word that describes you the best

Go-getter.

Persons you most admire and why?

My grandparents, because they came to a foreign country not knowing anyone and made a life for themselves, their children and their grandchildren.

Best thing about being Greek-Australian

Greeks have places get together and hang out, eat, dance traditional dances and stay in touch with each other.

If I could say anything to the Greek community…

If there are any Greek functions or community get togethers, we should all be working side by side to help support one another to keep it going.

Funniest Greek family moment

When I was younger I had a Greek dance performance to raise money for the island Lipso and my shoe fell off and kicked the priest in the head!

Favourite place to go or hang out at

Wherever my parea and I are is always good! Usually I am at a Greek function or fundraiser on the weekend.

Song that I can’t get out of my head at the moment

I have been singing along to Thrakiotika tunes. Mostly Zonaradiko and Paitouska!

Favourite Greek food

Fakes!

I can’t live without…

Greek dancing.

If I was Kevin Rudd for a day I would…

Cut taxes to help out those struggling!
