Half a million dollars in grants for local community projects are now available for local not-for-profit community groups under Yarra Council’s 2012 Annual Grants program. More than $536,000 in grants is available to support grassroots projects that will contribute to the health and wellbeing of the local community.
Yarra Mayor Cr Alison Clarke said Yarra’s grants program was one of the largest in Victorian local government. “Each year, more than 100 community projects are funded by Council’s Annual Grants program, with previous projects ranging from major cultural and arts events like the Gertrude Street Projection Festival, through to a kitchen garden program in a local school,” she said.
Cr Clarke said Annual Grants funding was available in the areas of arts and culture, the environment, community development, sport and recreation, and youth. Additional funding of up to $80,000 is provided by the Neighbourhood Justice Centre for projects that address community justice issues.
Applications for the Annual Grants will close on 10 June 2011. For the first time this year, applications can be completed online. Expressions of Interest are also open for the Council’s Investing in Community Grants, which provide a pool of $271,000 each year over three years to not-for-profit organisations.
“These grants are awarded to long-term community projects that match up with key priority areas for Council, such as promoting Aboriginal culture, reducing barriers for people with a disability, and working with new and emerging migrant communities,” Cr Clarke said.
“These grants, along with the Annual Grants, provide a great opportunity for Council to partner with local groups to deliver practical and positive outcomes for the community,” she said. Expressions of Interest for Investing in Community Grants will close on 1 June 2011.
