3CR will be holding a radiothon from June 6 and 19 this year.

The money raised will go to supporting a station that has supported communities across Melbourne for 35 years. Part of 3CR’s coverage has included the successful Greek program which is part of the diverse cultural and language programs the station offers. Radiothon coordinator Sarah Caufield told Neos Kosmos that the radiothon is about “raising money so [3CR] can keep going for another year.”

The station is looking to raise $210,000 with this year’s radiothon and needs your help to keep 3CR’s Greek program on air. “3CR is a community run and volunteer driven radio station and we don’t get sponsorship or advertising, so the people who volunteer their time here are putting in hours and hours of work towards getting alternative news and ideas out to the community. But we still need to be able to pay for our bills and equipment, so that’s what the radiothon is about,” said Caufield.

The station has more than 500 volunteers broadcasting 120 programs each week in over 20 languages. The station is committed to giving voice to those denied one in mainstream media, providing alternative coverage of social, economic, cultural and political developments. With the constant update of technology, 3CR needs your donations to make sure it stays ahead of it’s game and provides the community with diverse programming.

The station is seeking financial donations from members of the public from June 6 and 19.
