Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu recently recognised some of the state’s top performers, including a number of Greek Australians. The proud students were awarded in a special ceremony at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

Although many of the students present have now gone on to start their tertiary education, the celebration allowed students to enjoy the fruits of their studies in 2010. Baillieu headed the ceremony and was accompanied by Olympic gold medalist Lydia Lassila and fashion designer Peter Alexander, to present a total of 307 awards to 283 students.

The top performing schools were Mac Robertson Girls’ High School, with 16 award winners, and Melbourne High School with 14 winners. Top Greek Australian students awarded were:

  • Megan Agganis – Outdoor and Environment Studies – St Leonard’s College
  • Georgia Carapetis – Physical Education – The Mac Robertson Girls’ School
  • Priscilla Savopoulos – (LOTE – Greek) – Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria
  • Sam Dimopoulos – Economics – Balwyn High School
  • Alexander Hasiotis – Mathematics: Mathematical Methods (CAS) – Trinity Grammar School
