Blue September, the campaign which encourages Australians to face up to cancer in men, has started and needs your support.

Since 2008, Blue September has been lighting towns and painting faces everywhere blue to raise awareness and support for cancer in men.

The initiative supports the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and Bowel Cancer Australia, to increase awareness of cancer in men while at the same time, raising money to support vital cancer research.

Each year 22,000 Australian men are expected to die of cancer, with 1 in 2 Australian men diagnosed with cancer at some stage of their life by the age of 85. The national campaign is aimed at raising awareness about cancers that affect thousands of men each year in Australia, but which can often be prevented through lifestyle choices.

Last year in Australia, California and New Zealand, everything seemed to be turning blue, from, Capitol Records in Hollywood to the Sydney Harbour Bridge which were both turned blue with lights for the event.

The campaign is spreading to include UK and Ireland this year. The campaign slogan, “facing up to cancer in men”, is brought to life by men, women and children painting their faces blue or expressing blue in some other way.
