A Greek Cypriot father and son duo, Demetrious Demetriou and Lagi, aka Stavros Flatley, won the public vote to sail into Britain’s Got Talent Grand Final on Sunday which was won by street dancers Diversity.
Demetriou and his twelve year old son Lagi mixed traditional Greek dancing with Riverdance inspired moves to win the public vote.
“Two podgy fellas who combine Michael Flatly with a Greek element” was how father Demetrios Demetriou described their act.
Panellist judge Amanda Holden was elated with their performance to say the least, “I just love, love, love you. It’s just, I think you are great dancers… I love that you are family… You are everything this show is about and if people don’t vote for you then they are insane.”
Even tyrant judge Simon Cowell praised their performance, “I should hate you, it’s sort of rubbish but brilliant. It’s you that I really, really like… it’s incredibly infectious.”
The duo have said that they originally created the dance routines to entertain family members at their restaurant.
The backing dancers for their performance on Britain’s Got Talent last week were actually friends who used to work at the shop.
