The number of voters who have a negative view of Prime Minister Lucas Papademos is increasing according to a new poll from Alco. Forty per cent of respondents have a negative view of Papademos, compared with 39 per cent who regard him positively. The nationwide telephone survey recorded the views of 1,000 people between 6-12 December.

This is the first poll showing popular discontent towards Papademos.
Surveys by other pollsters last week showed Papademos’s popularity rising to as high as 60 per cent in December from 55 per cent last month.

Ta Nea reported this week that Papademos is worried about the infighting between the three parties forming his government and that he plans to contact their leaders, asking them for their full support.
When asked which party they would vote for, 21.4 per cent of respondents said New Democracy, followed by 12.9 per cent for Pasok, 9.3 per cent for the Communist Party (KKE), 6.9 per cent for the Democratic Left, 6 per cent for the Radical Left Coalition (Syriza), 5 per cent for the Popular Orthodox Rally (Laos), 3.2 per cent for the EcoGreens and 2.5 for the Democratic Alliance.
Almost three in ten voters (28.6 per cent) say they are undecided, will not vote or do not support any party.
