The PanMessinian Brotherhood Papaflessas is celebrating its 50th anniversary by hosting an array of events.

The event calendar began on Friday, with a speech by Victorian MP Jenny Mikakos on “The role of second and third generation Greek women in Australian Society.”

Mrs Mikakos opened her speech by acknowledging the great contribution of the first generation of Greek Australian women.

Outlining the new challenges faced by women in Australia nowdays she underscored the need for Greek Australian women to develop more networks.

“This is something that I think my generation of Greek-Australian women needs to focus on. We can learn from each other and support each other in a more organised way than we have to date,’” pointed out Mrs Mikakos.

Events will continue on July 3 with a presentation by Bill Giavris on the topic of “The politics of transition: The need for succession planning and generational leadership change in Greek community organisations,.”

All of the events are at the Papaflessas House in Thornbury.
