Political Prisoners in 20th Century Greece
History event
Political prisoners it's a phenomenon that runs through modern Greek History from 1920s to 1974. For half a century, political persecution has been the main policy of governments against their opponents. The long duration of the phenomenon and the huge number of political prisoners (especially during the years of the Greek civil war) show that the distinction between authoritarianism and democracy is much more problematic and debatable for a very long period of modern Greek history.

Tribute to Nigel Buesst
A celebration of the achievements of one of Melbourne's film legends, Nigel Buesst.
ACMI & Unknown Pleasures invite you to a free commemorative event to celebrate the life and work of one of Melbourne's most remarkable and beloved film figures, Nigel Buesst (1938 - 2024).
From the early 1960s, Buesst was active in the Melbourne independent film scene like no other: he made his own films, a broad range of documentaries and dramas, from the early 1960s up to the 2010s; he taught at the Swinburne Film & TV School from 1970 to 1984; he was director of the St.Kilda Film Festival from 1986 to 1990; he assisted many filmmakers in various ways, including managing editing suites; and generally he was a great supporter of Melbourne’s independent film community right up until his passing on December 27, 2024.
There will be a one-hour presentation of excerpts (curated by Peter Tammer) from a number of Buesst’s films, followed by a Panel Discussion with:
Jason Buesst, Adrian Danks, Amanda Falvo, Nubar Ghazarian,
and Jake Wilson, chaired by Bill Mousoulis.06 Jul 2025 -
