In honour of International Women’s Day, Delphi Bank celebrated its annual Women’s Business Luncheon on Friday 16 March at Melbourne’s Hellenic Museum.
Described as an ‘expression of our values’ by the Head of Delphi Bank, Jim Sarris – the Luncheon was supported by Guest Speakers Demi Markogiannaki, Co-Founder of WeTeachMe, and leading social media marketers and bloggers, Bec and Marissa Karagiorgos of Twice Blessed.
In addition to the Guest Speakers, Delphi Bank also engaged top Hellenic-Australian Fashion Illustrator, Natalie Rompotis to facilitate the panel discussion on start-up business, entrepreneurship and of course, what this year’s International Women’s Day theme ‘Press for Progress’ means to them.
“When planning this event, which has become a vital part of our DNA, we looked at the women in our community who continue to inspire us through their business ingenuity, community spirit and drive to succeed”, Head of Delphi Bank, Jim Sarris said.
“What Demi, Bec, Marissa and Natalie all have in common, aside from their Hellenic heritage, is their formal education and innate entrepreneurial instinct which has allowed them to think outside of the box when it comes to using their talents in their workforce”, Jim Sarris continued.
Like the Bank, they also value family and building a well-connected community.
With over 130,000 Instagram followers, bloggers Bec and Marissa Karagiorgos stated that “The importance of relationship building is what has got us to where we are today. Building community and relationships is what will propel you in this industry, or what will sink you if you don’t invest properly”.
As for the Co-Founder of Australia’s biggest web-based school in Australia, WeTeachMe, Demi Markogiannaki said that like Delphi Bank, I also ‘make it a point to give women equal employment opportunities to create a more balanced and diverse working environment’.
“I come from a country [Greece] that is traditionally patriarchal, where not too many girls are encouraged to get involved in business, much less the technology sector. As a woman who has co-founded a technology business…I like to think of myself as an example for other women and girls that have similar dreams but are unsure about how to pursue them”, continued Demi.
This message of empowerment was echoed throughout the Luncheon which continues to generate much interest within the community.
Head of Delphi Bank, Jim Sarris stated that the event ‘aims to give back to the Hellenic-Australian community that has long-supported our Bank, and of course celebrate women in our community and their success’.
“The event also highlights our commitment to diversity and inclusion. I’m proud that women are represented at all levels of our Bank – from Branch Managers and Relationship Managers, right up to the Leadership level”, continued Jim Sarris.
