VIRTUAL OPEN LECTURE: THE TREATY OF LAUSANNE
Markos Carelos will be presenting a lecture on the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne, viewed through the perspectives of two leading Greek contemporary critics of the treaty: Georgios Streit (1868–1948) and Emmanouel Emmanouelides (1867–1943).
Mr Carelos will unpack how the compulsory nature of the Treaty’s Convention Concerning the Exchange of Greek and Turkish Populations, violated what in the 21st century would be regarded as inalienable human rights.

RE-IMAGINE: WHAT NEXT?
The Australia Council for the Arts invites the community to a series of town hall meetings, to discuss the questions: What do we want the arts and cultural industries to look like in 2030 and how do we get there? A discussion paper has been published by the Council on their website asking communities and artists to take part in future planning.

VIRTUAL SEMINAR: FROM THE PHASIS TO THE PILLARS OF HERACLES
Associate Professor Lieve Donnellan will be presenting a lecture Greek overseas “colonisation” and how the use of new methods continues to shed light on the phenomenon of rapid spreading of Greek settlement and migration in the 8th-6th centuries BCE. Before joining the University of Melbourne as Lecturer in Classical Greek Archaeology, Prof Donnellan was Assistant Professor of Classical Archaeology at Aarhus University in Denmark.

NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH MONTH LAUNCH
National Mental Health Month is an initiative of the Mental Health Foundation Australia to advocate for and raise awareness of Australian mental health. At this launch, presentations will be made to the winners of the Schools’ Creative Writing Competition and Art Competition 2020. There will also be an opportunity for you to sit in on formal addresses, on the Victorian government’s plans for mental health into the future and the current Royal Commission into mental health.

SINGING WORKSHOP WITH ELSA MOURATIDOU
Greek Fringe is thrilled to host an online singing workshop with renowned vocalist from Greece Elsa Mouratidou. This workshop will be held on zoom and is open to a limited number of participants. Τhe workshop’s theme will be women who break the stereotypes of “proper” mothers, daughters or wives in Greek folk music and no prior knowledge is required to join in.

VIRTUAL OPEN LECTURE: FAMINE AND DEATH IN OCCUPIED GREECE: A RE-APPRAISAL
The Greek Community of Melbourne continues hosting their cultural and historical seminars. This presentation by Modern European History professor Violetta Hionidou, will explore the reasons the famine occurred, the spatial and temporal variations of the famine but also the coping mechanisms that the population devised in order to survive.

VIRTUAL OPEN LECTURE: IN SEARCH FOR THE LOST GREEK INFINITIVE IN ANATOLIA

VIRTUAL OPEN LECTURE: MEMORY MAPPING AND THE HISTORIC GREEK COMMUNITIES OF ISTANBUL 
Leverhulme Research Fellow Dr Gönül Bozoğlu will delve into the ongoing work with communities whose cultural memory fall outside of official heritage practice. The historic ‘Rum’ (Greek-speaking) population of Istanbul lives with a hostile history and so the research involved walking, talking, filming and recording with community members to explore and map their memories, building an online resource.
