“See what we do and how it impacts the lives around us” Waverley Social Enterprise states, inviting all those interested, to two Open Days planned on their site in Notting Hill, on Tuesday 20 and Thursday 22 April (2.30-5.30pm).

With a workforce of 330 adults with special needs, amongst them many of Greek descent, Waverley Social Enterprise has become a successful business in Melbourne, offering its services to more than 550 customers.

“It is not just a job for the people working here,” finance officer of the organisation, Kathy Matheas told Neos Kosmos. “They provide a service which is appreciated and that means a lot to them,” adding that they have formed friendships, the environment is very friendly and they love the work and being an active part of society.

Established in 1984, the organisation’s objective was to offer job opportunities to disabled people who find it hard to join the workforce.

The business has grown over the years, and it now offers at competitive prices, a wide variety of services such as catering, packaging, wood work, transport, garden and maintenance services.

Amongst their customers are well-known household brands such as L’Oreal and Dulux Australia, Priceline and the Municipalities of Melbourne.

Their future plans will interest the Greek community of Melbourne

The not-for-profit organisation is excited and proud to showcase their renovations; a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and the upgrade of their Packaging Hall, which were completed with the government grants they received during the previous year.

As there are many Greek Australians working in this business, and with a city like Melbourne to cater for, where the Greek element is distinct, the organisation is planning to include Greek traditional recipes in their catering services, and even create Easter hampers with traditional Greek delicacies, from next year onwards.

These are some of the plans that will be announced at the Open Days on 20 and 22 April (2:30pm –5:30pm) where homemade delicacies and refreshment will be served and those attending will have the opportunity to explore the departments and see the enthusiastic teams in action.
