Celebrating Easter is a well-preserved tradition for most, even celebrities. From Greece to Australia and Hollywood the Orthodox Easter celebrations, which this year came one week after the Catholic Easter, found many famous stars declaring their love for the Greek Pascha, just as the rest of the eight million Greeks of the diaspora do.
Internationally acclaimed makeup artist and tycoon Napoleon Perdis, who recently moved to Greece with his entire family in an attempt to join the Greeks in their struggle and reinforce the Greek economy, posted several family Easter photos on Facebook and exchanged wishes with his following on Twitter.
Greek Australian actor/writer Thaao Penghlis also shared the Greek Orthodox love message, posting wishes on his social media accounts.
Actress/musician/producer Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks’ Greek American wife, has once again taken to the media to declare her Greek Orthodox faith. With Hanks, who joined the Greek Orthodox Church when they got married back in 1988, they celebrate Pascha the Greek way, fasting for 40 days so they can cook magiritsa on Great Saturday, enjoy their red egg fights and put a lamb on the spit for Easter Sunday. Tom even carries the Epitaph and this year was no exception, as he has been an avid member of St Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles.
Hollywood director and actress Nia Vardalos, as well as TV presenter Maria Menounos and actor John Stamos, never miss out on Greek Pascha celebrations, nor church services during the Holy Week. They too shared some love and wishes with their fans and even got together to enjoy the traditional Greek lamb and exchange ‘Xristos Anesti’ wishes.
