Tuesday is an unlucky day for Greeks. It has been so ever since Tuesday the 29th of May 1453. The day the City fell. The day that life as we know it came to an end.
This Friday 28 May, at 7:00pm at Axion Esti Monastery, Northcote, Consul General of Greece Emmanuel Kakavelakis and Dean Kalimniou present the story of Constantine Palaiologos, the last emperor of the Byzantium. There has not been one since.

It is significant to remember Constantine and the Fall this year, as we celebrate the anniversary of the 1821 Revolution because it is from the death of the Emperor and the Fall of Constantinople that we count the years of slavery under the Ottomans that led to 1821 in the first place.
As a hybrid lecture, the speaker will also take a look at how Constantine played an important role in fuelling the hopes of the downtrodden Greek people, for regenesis.
