Paul Karalis (bouzouki) and Alex Petropoulos (guitar) are a young duet who play Greek Rebetika music. This music, described as the “Greek blues”, encapsulates the struggles of life and love in the chaotic slums of 1930s Athens. Alex and Paul play a heavy style of rebetika with a focus on authentically replicating original rebetika recordings.

Paint and Sip Class: The Greek House

For those wanting to escape to a Greek summer or looking for something unique to do in Melbourne, this class may be of interest. Learn how to paint but also temporarily enter a Greek sanctuary of white cave houses, dramatic scenery and bright colours.

Music will fill the room as guests gain artistic tuition from a professional artist. All painting materials are provided such as a canvas, easel, paints, brushes and an apron.

Also encouraged is bringing drinks and snacks, with glassware and bottle openers provided, and it is suggested that if you want more time to socialise, to go earlier and view the exhibitions.

Coffee Making & Tasting Class | Greek Coffee

During this class, attendees can boil theit own Greek coffee on a stovetop, following a very traditional method. Participants can enjoy some special chocolates and Turkish Delight with their cup of coffee. At the end of the tasting, attendees will be introduced to the Zou Zou innovative 8-cup automatic Greek coffee machine.

Then, they will be provided with a Zou Zou Coffee Reading Guide for you to enjoy discussing the symbols found at the bottom of their cup and discovering their associated meaning. A rare fortune-telling experience that they will be able to recreate at home.

Throughout the class, they’ll get demonstrations and feedback from Zou Zou’s inventor and founder Joseph Atallah, who’s been running popular workshops in chocolate, confectionary, and perfume-making, for 15 years.

The emphasis of this class is on having fun, enjoying, and learning about Greek coffee and Zou Zou’s coffee machine.
*Some call it Arabic, Turkish, Lebanese, Greek… but it really comes down to coffee which is ground extra fine, and generally roasted towards a darker roasting profile.

Be taken on a journey through traditions of a Greek Christmas, celebrating carols leading up to Christmas as well as carols to welcome in the New Year in this Hellenic Christmas carol.

With performances by Brisbane’s Ellinikes Fones, GOC Care Choir Fones and the Greek School of St. George Children’s Choir as well as solo performances, small vocal ensembles and Greek musicians.

Forming in 2021, Ellinikes Fones are proudly connected to their Hellenic heritage and are determined to help preserve and elevate Greek language and culture.

They have already attracted the attention of Greek super star Dimitris Basis, Australian- Greek conductor George Ellis and Greek media outlets from around Australia

Venizelos – The Struggle for Asia Minor

Event Cinemas Innaloo will be screening a documentary that explores the life and challenges faced by Eleftherios Venizelos, one of Greece’s greatest statesmen, during a critical decade that included the Balkan Wars, World War I, the Asia Minor Catastrophe, and the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne.

The documentary combines dramatised scenes, rare archival material, and expert interviews to provide insight into Venizelos’ strategic choices and the aftermath of his defeat in the 1920 elections.
