The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia is celebrating its 80th birthday this year, which also happens to be coinciding with the 5th Adelaide Hellenic Cultural Festival ODYSSEY.

The Olympic Hall will be the centre of many celebratory events.

This year’s festival will give Adelaide’s Hellenic Community an opportunity to revisit its history and recollect its progress, and its heart.

The Olympic Hall will be the centre of many celebratory events.

Through Odyssey, the South Australian Community will experience Hellenism as it should be experienced; with art exhibitions, cinema, cultural events, performances, music, an insight into the significance of religious icons and, of course, some politics.

The finale will once again be a musical affair with a substantial Hellenic influence – a focus on the musical achievement of the world-renowned Maria Callas.

The finale is to be held in the University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium Hall.

With Odyssey returning to Olympic Hall in 2010, celebrations will commence on Tuesday October 5, the exact day the Community met for the first time 80 years ago, to celebrate and to launch the 5th annual Odyssey Festival.

All members of the community are invited to Olympic Hall to take part in the celebrations and are encouraged to participate in the wonderful and colourful events that will follow throughout the month of October and into November 2010.
